The Lord of the Universe came by way of the western sea,
and stayed in Udupi , Is there anything more beautiful than the lovely-eyed joyful boy?
God Rishikesha , did you  decide   that  you had enough of the life  in Dwaraka ?
You came by the water, after crossing many nations and stood in the street[C1] .

Have you seen Udupi? Have you seen  Krishna of Udupi

Aa mugulu nagege aa nintha bagege maruladhalanthe gopi

Srimadhwa golidha Krishnane gelidha yaggalada nadu Udupi

After   seeing the  form of this  boy  with dark blue colour  and holding a churner,
Is there a head which does not bend  , are  there  hands held together  full with  grass and ,mud,
To that
innocent smile  and to his style of standing , it seems Gopi   was enchanted

Udupi is that place which blessed Madhva and won over even Krishna!
Udupiya kandeera Udupiya Krishnana kandeera (2)
Have you seen Udupi? Have you seen  Krishna of Udupi

Padugadala theera dindeddhu bara kadegolu hasta hididhu (2)
Bidugadeya dhari bhaktharige thori nammedheya benne kadedhu
Ananda thirtha rikarege parthasarathiyu karagi banthu

Kanindha kalli nolaginda illi vaikunta vanne thandhu

Please  get up and come from shores of the western sea holding  to that churner,
Please show the path of salvation   to your devotees by churning the butter in our heart
Parthasarathy, listening to the call of Anandatirtha (Sri Madhva), was filled with compassion and appeared from within the stone, bringing Vaikuntha itself here.

Udupiya kandeera udupiya krishnana kandeera

Krishnana kandeera(2) krishnana udupiya kandeera

Udupiya kandeera, udupiya krishnana kandeera (3)

Have you seen Udupi? Have you seen  Krishna of Udupi?
Have you seen Krishna? Have you seen the Udupi  of Krishna?
Have you seen Udupi? Have you seen  Krishna of Udupi

Idol of Udupi Shri Krishna- Mythology and History According to a folklore, there was a storm in the sea at Malpe, which is a seashore, about 2 kilometers from the centre of the town. Shri Madhvacharya was on the shore at the time and saw a ship that was in trouble. He helped the ship reach the shore to safety. The sailors were very grateful and gave him idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama that they found in a rock of gopi-chandan ( a fragrant mud, with significance in hindu vaishnava culture). He did the pratishte (installation) of the deity of Lord Balarama near Malpe. This temple is known as Vadapandeshwara. He brought the deity of Lord Krishna and did the pratishte at Udupi. This temple is known as Krishna Mutt (pronounced 'ma-ta' meaning a temple by swamijis i.e. saints)

[C1]This verse refers to how the Krishna idol was found and installed in Udupi; see excerpt at the end.
